The world has finally thawed. It's been seven long years since a meteorite called Saris 7 struck the earth and plunged it into a nuclear winter. Most of the world has perished. But there are pockets of survivors here and there. Hidden deep within an abandoned salt mine are Mark and Hannah and forty others. They've gone through the worst and are looking forward to coming out and starting the next chapter of their lives.
But the world is still a very ugly place, and it's not going to be easy.
Breakout Final Dawn Book 3 eBook Darrell Maloney
Maloney always delivers a well-written, detailed though slower-paced tale. He's also quite an optimist: 40 people go underground (into an incredibly well-appointed survival salt mine) to survive an extended "nuclear winter" following a meteor strike - and they all get along beautifully! No stress, no reality re human nature, no disagreements....it's all so lovely. The good guys are just supernaturally GOOD and (of course), the bad guys are really, really bad. But the reader doesn't have to struggle through 3rd grade grammar and the story moves along at a sedate but pleasant pace...so I keep coming back for more.(Hoever, one thing that Maloney, along with so many dystopian writers, does that drives me crazy (and it's a little thing when he writes so well in comparison to many of his colleagues) is consistently misuse "nodding vs shaking" to indicate a character's agreement or disagreement: when one agrees with a statement or action, one NODS assent. When disagreeing, one shakes his or her head. Can't you guys get this straight??)

Breakout Final Dawn Book 3 eBook Darrell Maloney Reviews
A real disappointment after the first two books . I won't hold my breath waiting for the next one. Too much describing about the animals, plants and birthday cakes they whipped up, etc...boring!!!
It is a good story, written fairly well, it does need a proofreader again as there are words that are used incorrectly or the wrong word entirely. The problem with that being that it interrupts the thought train on the story. I would recommend the book and I'm going to read the next in the series.
Mark and the gang are going through some hard times but, there is always hope. They are helping as many people as they can. The bad guys seem to be getting badder. I don't know if I can wait until September 2014 to see how this ends. Great read, you will enjoy it. So - read, enjoy, learn and save some more food.
Book 3 of the Final Dawn Series was really good. By now the main characters are well formed. The author made complete the entire situation that the characters went through. You had both elation and sadness in reading this book. I recommend this book to anyone.
Books one and two were well developed stories with solid characters. Book three continues with a story of their time in the mine and what it takes to get out and get started now that the earth is returning to more normal weather patterns. I believe Darrell Maloney to be an excellent writer for this type of prose.
This series, like most I've encountered in kindle books, has the need for a good editor. I keep my distaste for the distraction of grammatical and poor word choice errors under control by adding a note to it. Sometimes it's as small as "all right" being misspelled as "alright." This author did well. I often quit reading when I make five notations on a page. The story is excellent, good characters, good story line.
I love the story and the writing is easy to read with only a tiny few grammar mistakes. But the filler......urgghh......seriously; funerals, burials(and cremations), rain harvesting and cow moving take up at least 40% of the 2nd and 3rd books combined. The collection of a dozen and a half trucks for their contents takes up about a page and a half (I would have loved for the author to spend just a page and a half on the funerals and devote at least a chapter to the contents of all those trucks)
Anyway, in spite of the clumsy and boring filler material I liked it enough that I am looking forward to the next one.
